Pioneer appoints Andrew Souter as head of capital
Pioneer Underwriters (“Pioneer”) today announces that it has appointed Andrew Souter as head of capital at Pioneer, effective 19 August and reporting to Andrew McMellin, Pioneer CEO. As head of capital, Souter will be responsible for the capital and reinsurance purchasing functions within Pioneer, as well as developing and implementing the Group capital strategy.
Souter will focus on broadening Pioneer’s capital base and matching Pioneer’s various risk flows to the most appropriate capital providers across both traditional and alternative capital.
Souter brings nearly twenty years’ experience across insurance and capital markets to Pioneer. He joins from Willis Re, where he was regional director with twin responsibility as head of the London International ILS practice group and head of the London APAC non-marine treaty team. After graduating with a degree in Japanese studies in 2001, he began his career at Markit, before joining Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ in 2003, where he held roles in trading and active capital management. He joined Willis Re in 2009.
